The meet was at RobinC's house (Swindon, UK) on Sunday 3rd August...
First to show up (approx. midday) was Bifford in his rust-bucket of a car with his state-of-the-art (!) Pegasos machine.
The rest of the group showed up in small groups in the next half hour or so. Vision, Bomber, Dee, Michael and Emma arrived
last (after the rest of us had had lunch in fact) having got hopelessly lost by turning off one junction too late on the
motorway!
Here is ten minutes of footage from my (RobinC's) camcorder, most of the recording is done by Bomber though.
mpeg - 87.5mb, playable on older Amiga players or VCD.
divx - 23.3mb, needs the right codec (latest Frogger apparently)...
All in all the following peeps turned out for the social:
RobinC (obviously ;-) + wife Vicky, and baby Alison
Bifford
Bomber, Dee, Emma and Michael
Cyka
Stom, TamTam and Beth
Ryu
Vision
Couldn't be bothered to show! (ok, maybe something stopped em comming....)
BrianH (Car trouble)
Ghosty (His reason for not comming is totally transparent)(*groan*)
Rudei (Lifestyle trouble?)
Xeron (Too busy photocopying his bottom???? :)
Didn't come because they were not invited, but wouldn't have been turned away if they had shown:
The Queen
Sean Connery
Jennifer Connelly
Lee Evans
Richard Branson
Jennifer Connelly
Didn't come, and would have been turned away if they had tried, unless they offered such a huge bribe all sense
left everyone else and we put up with them before finishing early and celebrating...:
Tony Blair
George Bush
Bill Gates
The Event
Once the inital influx of bodies had settled down (which basically means everyone except Vision, Dee, Bomber, Michael and Emma)
we all trudged over to the local pub for a bite to eat. Two tables pulled together with umbrellas and drinks served up was
swiftly followed by dinner, and for Bifford an Ice-Cream desert (or as Tammy insisted on calling it, "Seconds" :)
Typically Stom decided to lower the tone and let one rip on the bench sending (not so plesant) vibrations into the woodwork!
Bifford also did his usual eyeing up of the ladies....! (ed: tried chatting them up too, lucky he didn't get slapped ;-)
Once we'd finished the nosh, Vision phoned asking for directions 'cause they'd got hopelessly lost. Robin spent the next five
minutes route-finding and they eventually turned up at the pub in time to walk back with us all.
En-route back to Robin and Vicky's the usual banter was mysteriously interupted by some very non-nocturnal Owls hooting at
surprisingly close quarters (ok, ok, so Ryu and Bifford made the hooting noises but they were exceptionally good at it so
you would never have guessed they were not real owls......(*grin)). Bifford also grass whistled, almost deafening himself in the
process with a very piercing whistle.
Back at the ranch....err....homestead....we settled down in the garden under the gazeebo in (quite comfy) fishing style chairs
and chit-chatted about this and that. I'm not gonna bore you with details (for a start I can't remember most of what was said)
and as some people were in the living room while others were upstairs with Robin and Bifford's computers reporting all
conversations while not actually being present during those conversations is pretty hard at the best of times!!!
Nibbles and drinks were available (strictly non-alchoholic) followed later by fajita's (mexican food similar to popadoms with
spicey chicken, sauce and salad in them). Scrummy! On the whole that lot went down nicely. (ed: next time I'll buy Old El Paso - Asda's own brand aren't as nice :-/ )
Vision brought his Synth-Keyboard into the house and showed it off to a rather disgruntled RobinC (hehehe) (ed: huh? busy more like ;-P ) while out in the
garden (where there was a blow-up paddling pool/play-area) Emma decided to wage a one-person war with the plastic floating balls
against anyone and everyone else. She lost of course, getting nice and wet in the process. But then four against one never was the
best of odds! :-)
Tammy, Stom and Beth left for home around the 6pm mark and a short while later Robin took Dee, Bomber, Emma and Michael (who
had been feeling Very rough all day, possibly due to sun-stroke the day before, and had a nasty temperature) home. The rest of us
chatted about this and that until Vision, Ryu and Cyka FINALLY left at around midnight (only 6 hours after they said they would
leave!). That would have been a nice trip back up north (Scunthorpe I think). Vision was supposed to be popping in to see some
friends before driving home again, bet they were happy having their front door knocked on at about 4am!
(ed: It took Vision 2-3 hours to drive over from Bombers place with them, it took me less than 2 hours to get there and back - what does that say about his driving)
(ed2: Seems it took over 7 hours for him to get up to sheffield from here - 160 miles away ;-P )
Bifford stayed the night on RC and Vicky's sofa-bed and is now (in case you hadn't guessed already) typing up this report. I'll
be heading off home (Essex) soon as RC's already gone to work and Vicky is pottering about the house and looking after Alison.
All in all we had a really good time and will have to do it again at some point in the future (Editor: maybe a bit nearer to
Bifford's house in Essex next time....?? ;-). Thanks everyone for comming, it was great!
So it's goodbye from me, and it's goodbye from him.
TTFN!
Bifford
